House in Haywards Heath

Project Details

Location: Haywards Heath, West Sussex
Local Authority: Mid Sussex District Council
Size: 280 m2 (Existing 144 m2)
Completed: 2016

A complete house remodelling and extension, doubling the property in size for a young and growing family.

We were selected to design extensions and alterations to a rural property in Haywards Heath, West Sussex, for a private client’s young and growing family. The original property, formerly an old stables outbuilding, was converted to residential accommodation in the 1960’s.

Our design has seen the property doubled in area and volume, providing the client with the flexibility and accommodation required to achieve a ‘home for the future’.

Working with planning consultants, we negotiated with the local authority to secure planning permission for what was a complicated application. There was local support but due to the size of the proposal the planning authority needed to be convinced of the benefits of the scheme.

Lindfield Rural Parish Council made the following comments regarding the scheme:

‘On viewing the proposals we were very impressed with how the architect has melded the design into the existing building and surroundings’.

The existing linear building has been extended along the south flank wall with two matching south facing gabled wings incorporating large areas of glazing to maximise views out to the garden and utilise passive solar heat gain. A rainwater harvester has also been installed.

Throughout the nine month construction phase, we worked closely with the client and contractor, to ensure the successful completion of the project.

All of our projects are bespoke, and are designed in response to our client’s aspirations and brief, the surrounding context and environment. We work with all types of client including homeowners, self-builders, developers, commercial businesses, parish councils, community groups and local authorities.
