Clients in for Christmas
Our clients have moved back into their home in time for Christmas following the hard work and dedication of all parties involved in delivering a new two storey extension to their property. The property, of Sussex vernacular origin, is situated in a beautiful location looking towards the South Downs National Park.
The project brief proposed an attractive extension to the southwest end of the property which was to maintain the character of the original property whilst making the most of the southerly aspect to the downs. Regarding interior spaces, a key consideration of the design was to allow for a new kitchen and dining space for up to 14 people to sit down. In collaboration with the client and the planning authority we arrived at a design that was sympathetic of the surrounding context and which allowed for a more efficient organisation of the internal layout. Furthermore, the design aimed to improve the energy consumption and performance of the property with an increased amount of insulation, photovoltaic’s on the roof and the addition of solar panels for heating.
In June 2011 we obtained planning permission for our scheme through the Horsham District Council. Work on the new extension began on site towards the end of July 2011 with Nutshell Construction employed as the principal contractor. We arranged regular meetings with the client and contractor in order to track progress of the build. The clients moved out of their home over the August bank holiday weekend to assist in the smooth running of the construction.
In just under 4 months, the extension and alterations to the property are nearing completion and the family were able to move back in – just in time for Christmas!
